More about the Konza Technopolis City
Konza will be built on 5,000 acres of what is now ranchland. It will have smart buildings, a world-class hospital, financial institutions and a high-speed railway transport system. The ground breaking and physical construction of the ICT Technopolis was commissioned by HIS EXCELLENCY THE PRESIDENT OF KENYA on 23rd Jan 2013. 60% of the first phase has already been booked for construction by both local and international companies. Investors prepared to start immediately include Safaricom, Wananchi Online, Craft Silicon, University of Nairobi, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology as well as the Nairobi Hospital.
Foreign multinationals include the ICT leader Google, Korean electronics giant Samsung, the fast growing Chinese Huawei Technologies and Telemac of the US.
The Kenya government has set aside KSH 1.3billion during the financial year (2013 -2014) to fund the project's first phase which will include roads construction. In addition, the African Development Bank has recently funded the construction of the Thwake water dam which will adequately supply the areas' water requirements at a cost of KSH 8.5billion. Upon completion, Konza is projected to become the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) hub of Africa.
